My TBR pile is always growing and growing… and growing. *high pitched Pterodactyl screech* It’ll never end, which makes this week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt hard to narrow down. I don’t usually plan out what I’m going to read too far in advance because I never know what I’ll end up checking out from the library or receive in my book subscription box or randomly buy from the store. (I don’t have a problem, I promise!) In addition, I’m going to be moving at the end of March, so I have to *cries* get rid of some books… which means I need to read said books first. Here’s what I’m hoping to read this winter.
(This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is: Top Ten Books On My Winter TBR)
Books I Own to Read
Okay, so I have way more than four books that I own to read. I actually have like three stacks of ten each, plus a few more. But these are the ones I’m hoping to read first, in addition to all the others…
Before She Ignites by Jodi Meadows: I received this in the September Owlcrate box, Magical Creatures, and I don’t know why I haven’t read it yet. (Well, I do know why… I keep checking out other books from the library and then Renegades by Marissa Meyer released… and well, here we are.) I plan to pick this book up next.
The Glass Spare by Lauren DeStefano: I received this book in the November Owlcrate box, and I plan to read it after Before She Ignites (unless another shiny new book catches my attention first). I might even be able to read it in time to participate in the monthly Owlcrate book club!
Many Waters by Madeleine L’Engle: Earlier this year, I bought a boxed set of the Time Quintet by Madeleine L’Engle, and I’ve been reading them throughout the year. My goal is to read the entire series by the end of the year.
The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch: I actually started this book earlier this summer, but I couldn’t get into it and I had to return it to the library. I have several friends begging me to read it, so I borrowed a paperback copy so I can take my time reading it. Now I just have to find that time.
Books from the library
Most of the books I read are from the library, and since I work a library and see all the (shiny) new YA books being added to the collection, I’m constantly checking books out. But here are a few older titles I want to finally read.
My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories by Stephanie Perkins: I’ve been wanting to read this book for over a year, but I forgot to read it last year. Since it is winter holiday themed, I didn’t feel it was appropriate to read during a different season, so I put it on hold from the library recently and hopefully will get to read it in time for the holidays!
The Death Cure by James Dashner: I read the first two books in The Maze Runner trilogy forever ago, but I wasn’t impressed with The Scorch Trials so I never finished the series. But since the movie comes out in January, I feel obligated to finally read The Death Cure and see which is better: the book or the movie. (Honestly, I hope the movie because the other movies were better than the books.)
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline: I’m not sure how this book fell under my radar since it sounds like something I’d enjoy it. Again, since the movie is coming out next year, I plan to check out a copy from the library to read soon.
Books Coming out in January 2018
Of course, most of the books I’ll read this winter are going to be new titles. There are a lot coming out in January and February, and I’ve already got several on hold and I’m eyeing a few others to buy. Here’s a short list of the titles I’m most looking forward to in January 2018.
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black: I’ve only read one book by Holly Black, which was a middle grade, but I’ve heard so many good things about this book that I immediately added it to be shortlist for 2018. Plus, that cover is gorgeous and the synopsis sounds great.
Batman: Nightwalker by Marie Lu: Even though I wasn’t a fan of Wonder Woman: Warbringer, I want to give the Batman novel a chance. If it doesn’t go well, I’ll swear off the rest of the DC Icons series.
Wires and Nerve Vol. 2: Gone Rogue by Marissa Meyer: Of course, I’m going to read the last installment in the Lunar Chronicles! I’m hoping I’ll get a gift card for Christmas so I can preorder this book and get it when it comes out in late January.
