Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Book Quotes

I have so many “favorite” quotes from books. I basically collect quotes. While reading if I stumble upon something profound or beautiful, I take the time to write it down so I’ll remember it. (Often my Goodreads updates for books include quotes I like.) Here are ten I love. Some are just for fun and some are more profound, but each one jumps out to me to be remembered.

(This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is Favorite Book Quotes.)

“When the first baby laughed for the first time, its laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies.” -Peter Pan, Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie

“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.” -Thorin Oakenshield, The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

“A little Consideration, a little Thought for Others, makes all the difference.” -Eeyore, Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne

“‘Oh, you can’t help that,’ said the Cat: ‘we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.’ -Chesire Cat, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.

“Aren’t there bits of magic everywhere we look? We’ve just stopped seeing it that way […] I mean—cake. Why does the perfect combination of ingredients put together at just the right temperature become a fluffy, airy cake? Why do water molecules sometimes turn into flakes of snow and sometimes rocks of hail? Why is it that two people coming together in love can create life and yet the volatile combination of another two can end it?” -Mr. Cliffton, The Disappearances by Emily Bain Murphy

“One thing I’ve learned is that you don’t have to understand things for them to be.” -Dr. Murry, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle

“Look to the stars. Aim. Ignite.” –Geekerella by Ashley Poston

“It takes ten times as long to put yourself back together as it does to fall apart.” -Finnick Odair, Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

“There, peeping among the cloud—wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the shadow was only a small passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.” –The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien

“Perhaps, after all, romance did not come into one’s life with pomp and blare, like a gay knight riding down; perhaps it crept to one’s side like an old friend through quiet ways; perhaps it revealed itself in seeming prose, until some sudden shaft of illumination flung athwart its pages betrayed the rhythm and the music; perhaps…perhaps…love unfolded naturally out of a beautiful friendship, as a golden-hearted rose slipping from its green sheath.” –Anne of Avonlea by L.M. Montgomery

    • There are so many wonderful quotes from Winnie the Pooh. Despite being a bear with no brains, he and the other inhabitants of the 100 Acre Woods have a lot of wisdom! 🙂
