Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Places I Want to Visit

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is Bookstores/Libraries I’ve Always Wanted to Visit, but when I made my list, I couldn’t think of any place beyond the Library of Congress and the New York Public Library. I’m not that familiar with brilliant bookstores or cool libraries, so I’m tweaking this week’s prompt to include any bookish place I’d want to visit.

Library of Congress: As I mentioned before, this was the first library to pop in my head when I read the prompt. I’ve been two Washington D.C. at least three times in my life, but I have yet to visit the Library of Congress. Next time, I’m going in for sure. Can’t you just imagine all those books?

New York Public Library: The New York Public Library is iconic, whether or not you’ve seen Ghostbusters or any other number of movies  or TV shows filmed there. I think I just want to step into that main room and just take a deep breath.

Green Gables, Prince Edward Island: As a huge fan of the Anne of Green Gables books by L.M. Montgomery, it comes as no surprise that Prince Edward Island is high on my list of places I want to visit someday. I can just imagine seeing the Lake of Shining Water and Lover’s Lane…

Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Home and Museum: I grew up reading the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and my dream road trip would be to hit almost every place the Ingalls family lived during their adventures to the West. It would be a crazy adventure to plan, but I think it would be worth seeing the Midwest through Laura’s eyes.

221B Baker St. (aka the Sherlock Holmes Museum): A list of bookish places wouldn’t be complete without Sherlock Holmes’ famous address. Technically 221B Baker St. isn’t accessible to the public, but next door is the Sherlock Holmes Museum. I think that would be enough to pretend I’m standing on the same street as the world’s greatest consulting detective.

Tolkien’s grave (Oxford): This may come across morbid, but I want to visit J.R.R. Tolkien’s grave in Oxford. I’ve seen pictures of his and his wife’s gravestones with the “Beren” and “Luthien” inscription, but I think going and seeing it with my own eyes would make me feel as if I could truly pay my respects and give my thanks to Tolkien for all he wrote.

Ashdown Forest: Places in Ashdown Forest inspired elements of A.A. Milne when he wrote Winnie-the-Pooh. I would love to go there and see the place and maybe, if I’m able, play Poohsticks.

The Shakespeare’s Globe: My friend visited Shakespeare’s Globe when she was in England and she sent me a Tempest-themed postcard as well as pictures of the place. Ever since, I’ve wanted to visit myself and just imagine it’s the original theater and all the plays that took place.

Hobbiton, New Zealand: I can’t forget probably the #1 place on my bookish bucket list, Hobbiton! I’d love to walk past the hobbit holes, swing by Bag End, and grab a pint from the Green Dragon. But I probably wouldn’t be able to contain my excitement, and I’d faint or freeze up at the sight of my beloved Shire.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Probably the most attainable bookish location is the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I’ve looked through all the attractions on their website numerous times, and I’m already scheming to figure out a time to go… soon.
