Top Ten Tuesday: First Books I Reviewed

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is (First Ten) Books I Reviewed. I started reviewing books in like 2011 on a different blog that no longer exists. In 2017, I decided to separate my blog into two (personal/writing and book reviews/bookish posts) and move both to WordPress. Thus, Books and Waffles was born. Since I don’t want to track down my first ever book reviews, whether on Goodreads or a retail site or that dead blog, I’m going to list the first ten books I reviewed on this website, Books and Waffles.

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee: The first book I ever reviewed on this site because it happened to be a popular, new book I was reading and I had it with me when a group of friends and I ate waffles together. Beautiful.

The Disappearances by Emily Bain Murphy: This book blew me away and easily became one of my favorite reads ever.

The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell: Another favorite read from 2017, I freaking love the time travel/historical time period, the magic, and the characters. The sequel punched me just as hard and I’m eagerly awaiting the third book.

The Day the Angels Fell by Shawn Smucker: I received a free copy of this book to review from the publisher. It was a decent story, but not a favorite.

The Hearts We Sold by Emily Lloyd-Jones: This was an Owlcrate pick and I liked the concept and plot, but it’s not as memorable as I would like.

The Arsonist by Stephanie Oakes: I struggled with this story at first, but I’m glad I stuck with it because as the different pieces come together into a whole the story takes off and has a lot of suspense and tension.

Girls Made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust: Another book that had a great concept but isn’t as memorable as I wish it was. So much potential for this story, though.

Warcross by Marie Lu: My opinion of this duology has soured a little now that I’ve read Wildcard, but it’s a fun series for people who like video games and government conspiracies.

Dracula by Bram Stoker: This isn’t so much a review as me rambling about the ups and downs of reading this Gothic classic. Aka the vampires are bloody awesome but the rest of it’s boring.

An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson: While some aspects of this book could have been better, I loved how atmospheric it was. Plus, Rook… *swoons*
