Books and Waffles Alphabetical: M

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is Favorite BookmarksI don’t really have ten bookmarks that are my favorite to use. I usually just like to match my bookmarks to my book if I can or pick something that looks fun. So instead, I’m going to do another alphabetical post.

Rules:

  • Credit Alex for the idea, and link back
  • Post at your own pace, do as many or as few letters as you want
  • Post your favourite authors, books and characters (ABCs) for a particular letter of the alphabet

The letter M had a lot of options for all three categories, but I managed to narrow it down to four for each.

Authors

Lisa Maxwell: While I haven’t liked every book by Lisa Maxwell I’ve read, I love The Last Magician too much for her not to be a favorite author.

M (2)

Marissa Meyer: The Lunar Chronicles are some of the best fairy tale retelling books I’ve ever read. I also like her superhero trilogy.

A.A. Milne: Who doesn’t love Winnie-the-Pooh, though?

M (3)

L.M. Montgomery: She wrote Anne of Green Gables, so obviously she’s a favorite author.

Books

The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis: When I was younger, The Magician’s Nephew wasn’t my favorite Narnia book because it wasn’t about the Pevensies. Now that I’m older, I appreciate this story and Digory’s journey so much more.

The Magician's Nephew (2)

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya by Nagaru Tanigawa: This is one of my favorite manga series. I love the characters and the crazy story arcs and just the fun of the whole thing.

Les Miserables by Victor Hugo: This was a mammoth of a book to read, but it was worth it. This story is so powerful and so important, it makes me weep.

Ms. Marvel by G. Willow Wilson: Kamala Khan is one of my new favorite superheroes. These comics are fun, diverse, and full of relatable and important themes.

Characters

Max Vandenburg from The Book Thief by Markus Zusak: I love Max so much. He’s my favorite character from the book, and I just adore his friendship with Liesel. He just makes me want to cry.

Meg Murry from A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle: Meg Murry is an inspiration. I love her fortitude and loyalty, especially to her family. I love that she uses what she believes are flaws to stop the bad guy and save her brother. She’s amazing,

Meriadoc Brandybuck from The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien: The hobbits are my favorite characters from Lord of the Rings, but I love Merry for his strong friendship with Pippin. Their bond reminds me a lot of a friendship I have with someone. I also love that Merry is loyal and brave, riding with Eowyn into battle and helping sway the Ents into doing something about Isengard.

M (1)

Roy Mustang from Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa: Roy Mustang may come across as an adversary for Ed and Alphonse, but I love his character anyways. He’s dark and brooding, but you know he has to have a heart because of his relationship with Riza.

Which authors, books, and characters that being with M do you love?

  1. Colonel Mustang is also a favorite of mine! (Though, when I first watched the anime, I was afraid to get too attached because Hughes had been my favorite character early on… 😦 )

And Meg Murray is a wonderful choice. She is a great example of the everyman hero, and inspired young me a lot, too.
