Books and Waffles Alphabetical: N

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is Holiday Reads. (Books you love reading during the holiday season.) I don’t usually read specific books for the winter holidays. So instead, here is another alphabetical post.

Rules:

  • Credit Alex for the idea, and link back
  • Post at your own pace, do as many or as few letters as you want
  • Post your favourite authors, books and characters (ABCs) for a particular letter of the alphabet

N was a lot harder to come up with authors and characters than I thought. I did manage to find three for each category after some searching, though.

Authors

Nagaru Tanigawa: He’s the creator of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya light novels and manga series. This is one of my favorite manga series ever.

Patrick Ness: I actually need to read more books by Patrick Ness, but The Knife of Never Letting Go was so good.

Celeste Ng: I’ve read both of Celeste Ng’s novels and they are absolutely incredible. I don’t usually like literary fiction, but I will read whatever she writes.

Books

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss: A recent favorite, I love so many things about this book. The world-building, the characters, the writing. It’s incredible.

The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord: This is one of my favorite YA contemporary books. The story Emery Lord tells spoke to me on a deeper level than most YA books. I need to reread it soon.

E (2)

Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen: This might be my favorite Austen novel. (It’s a toss-up between this one and Emma.) I love the characters, especially Mr. Tilney, and the fun aspects of the novel making fun of Gothic fiction.

Characters

Newt Scamander from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by J.K. Rowling: There are a few characters I feel kinship with, and Newt Scamander is one of them. I love this humble, shy nature and his love for animals. But I also love that despite his reluctance, he proves he can a be a hero too.

Nico di Angelo from Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan: Nico is one of my favorite characters from Camp Half-Blood. I just want to wrap him in a blanket and give him a big hug.

Nova from Renegades trilogy by Marissa Meyer: Despite being considered a villain, Nova’s my favorite character from the Renegades trilogy. I love how she changes over the course of the series but also stands firm in her beliefs when the world is shouting at her to be different.

Renegades Trilogy (1)

Which authors, books, and characters do you love that being with the letter N?

  1. Newt! Yay, Newt!

I haven’t read Northanger Abbey yet, but I’m really excited to now! Most people I talk to have P&P as their favorite Austen book, but it wasn’t mine. My favorite so far has been Emma, so since you also like Emma a lot I’m really hopeful I’ll like Northanger Abbey also!

    • Northanger Abbey is definitely different than the rest of her novels because it resembles a Gothic story (though Austen wrote it to poke fun at Gothic fiction). I think it’s highly underrated. I need to reread it (and her other novels) soon.
