  Hahaha… oreo + cocoa powder in waffle mix, plus a cream cheese oreo icing and cool whip… it was rich but also good. xD One of these days I should share waffle recipes…

I'm excited to join in the #coverreveal for Of Sea and Smoke by @gillianbronteadams releasing from @enclavepublishing in November 2023! This is the second book in the YA fantasy trilogy, The Fireborn Epic, and is available to preorder in hardcover today. 🌊

For book club tonight, we discussed Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones and then we watched the movie. We had egg casserole and bacon (of course!), chocolate cake pops, and short cake with strawberries and whipped cream. 🥓 🔥 🍰

If you would have told 7the grade Jaime that someday she would meet the author of Eragon while he was on tour for an adult sci-fi novel, she probably wouldn’t have believed you. She probably wouldn’t have known meeting authors and having books signed was even a thing. 😂

It’s been a while since I posted about a book I read and adored. I’ve had the occasional book club post or something when a new book arrives, but not where I show my love and appreciation for something. I’ve been a bit burnt out and overwhelmed and busy by everything and social media kind of drops to the back-back burner when that happens (which is a good thing, it’s where it should be on the priority list always) but I love books and I love sharing books I enjoyed with others and I’ve missed several favorite reads from this year that I need to catch up on. 📚

Have you ever written a manifesto for your work? A kind of life or purpose statement? Lately, as I’ve started the querying and publishing process, I’ve had this weight on me to put into writing my own kind of manifesto. To write down what I will and won’t do with my writing. To write down where I’ll draw the line, where I’ll compromise and not compromise, how far I’ll go to make this dream a reality. I know publishing a book, becoming an author, will come with a lot of decisions and a lot of opposition. There will be choices I have to make. A few months ago I had the opportunity to participate in a virtual writing chat with three authors I admire. I was able to ask them about how they deal with someone in the publishing world telling them to put something or take something out of their writing. And one of the author’s said the important thing was to resolve ahead of time what you will do and not do. What you will write about and what you won’t. What you will include in your writing and what you won’t. What you will do to get published. So this is my manifesto. My pledge to not compromise. I don’t have a specific running list because I think each story has its own needs but I’m keeping this idea in mind that the content, the messages and themes, the subject matter I include will reflect my beliefs and values. That I won’t put something in my writing that I’m uncomfortable with just to please an agent or editor or publisher or writing friend or marketing trend or fan base. This might make my writing journey harder. This might mean I don’t get published or find an agent immediately but I know this is the right choice for me and my writing. 💚
