So if you noticed since I started posting again in June, this blog has a new name and a new color scheme. I have no idea why I picked the red/brown palette in the first place, but I never liked it. I’m not sure if I’ll keep this color palette or even this design in the future, but it was a hassle to look for an entirely new theme and set it up.
But you’re probably wondering about the name. Jaime Writes Words and Waffles. If you didn’t know, I’m Jaime. I like writing, I like books, I like words, and I like waffles. I started this blog because I thought it would be fun to take pictures of books with waffles, maybe even pairing up waffle recipes with certain books (yeah, that never happened). But I still wanted to talk about my writing. I had another blog for that but I realized I never posted. So I wanted to combine the ideas into one blog, my blog, but I didn’t know how and I didn’t think “Books and Waffles” quite captured it all. So here we are: Jaime Writes Words and Waffles. It has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?
One of the reasons I took a break in May from posting is because I felt like I was drowning in writing perfect book reviews and creating awesome bookstagram photos (with waffles) and trying to keep up with comments and other blogs. I also was trying to crank out the last half of my WIP. I needed a break from something, and I really wanted to finish that novel.
My goal was to finish it by the end of May, but I was called back to work after Memorial Day so I sucked in and wrote a ton of words in a couple of days and I did. I finished that writing project after three months of writing and rewriting and feeling like I was just writing a big mess. It’s still a big mess, but it’s a finished big mess.
My original plan for June was to take a break from writing novels and just work on book reviews, link-up posts and maybe some short things here and there. But then I told my teen writers from the library about the 100 for 100 Challenge and thought I should join them. So I’m still going to write, but I’m not going to rush and stress myself about finishing something super fast.
I thought during May I would come up with this great plan for my new blog idea. I would know what kind of posts to include and create a schedule and all this stuff. And well other than writing a few reviews and making Top Ten Tuesday posts for June, I didn’t really think about this blog at all. I didn’t come up with a plan. I don’t know if on Sundays I’ll share story snippets or if it’ll be long, rambling posts like this one. I don’t know if I’ll keep doing reviews the same way or if I’ll try something new. I don’t know if I’ll ever get around to sharing waffle recipes, though I would love to. (I’m just not the one who makes all these waffles, that would be my slimy frog and husband, William.)
Basically, my break helped me concentrate on my novel writing, which was great, but it didn’t help me solve the “stale blog problem.” So I guess we’ll just have to see what happens together, right?
