This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is Books that Should be Adapted into Netflix Shows/Movies. I’m not one of those people who think every book should be adapted for the screen. Some stories are best as books. But there are some I wouldn’t mind having a show or movie adaptation for. I don’t know if they necessarily need to be made for Netflix, though they have done a good job with many book adaptations.
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer: Turning this series into movies or a show has been talked about a lot, and it’ll probably happen at some point or another because of how popular it is. My preference would be an animated show a la The Last Airbender, though. I can’t really imagine live-action actors truly capturing the characters. Plus, the outer space scenes would be gorgeous animated!
The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli: This book would make an epic live-action TV show. Dragons and battles and forbidden love and politics. I wouldn’t mind all the books being turned into mini-series type shows, but this first one for sure.
Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin: Based on how popular shows like The Man in the High Castle are, I think this one would make a great live-action TV show also. It has a lot of exciting moments and cool sci-fi aspects. Plus, who doesn’t want a movie about a Jewish girl taking down Hitler?
Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff: I’m pretty sure this has been greenlighted to become produced, but I’d like it now, not later. I wouldn’t mind if this one was animated or live-action, but it should be a TV show in order to capture the scope of the whole series.
Eragon by Christopher Paolini: I’ve been saying for years that if someone would take the material of Eragon and adapt it into a live-action TV series like Game of Thrones or The Witcher, it would do extremely well. Paolini’s story has all the makings of a great epic fantasy, the writing just needs some boosting. And no, the movie adaptation does not exist.
Jackaby by William Ritter: I could see this paranormal mystery series come to life as either a live-action TV series or a movie. It would even be cool if they did something similar to Sherlock with mini-series episodes.
The Queen’s Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner: Yeah, I need this series as a live action TV show ASAP. With the final book coming out, maybe it’s the right time to bring all those threads together into a compelling show.
The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch: This would make such an epic live-action TV show as well. I need that scene with Locke and Jean. Please.
Geekerella by Ashely Poston: I would love for all the Once Upon a Con books to be adapted into a series of live-action movies, kind of like To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, but better.
The Merciful Crow by Margaret Owen: This fantasy book would be so freaking cool as a live-action TV show. The world-building is so interesting, and I’d love to see it come to life beyond just the page.
Great list! The Lunar Chronicles made my list this week, too, and The Lies of Locke Lamora would be so fun as a film or TV series.

I can totally see The Lunar Chronicles as a movie, but I agree, I think animation would work better for the story. Live action can’t always capture the magic of series like LTC.
Happy TTT!

Agreed! And there are so many amazing animated shows (Dragon Prince, Last Airbender, Voltron, etc.) that are absolutely stunning and I can just picture how cool they could design Luna!

I’d also love to see the Once Upon a Con series made into movies. Partly because I love the stories, but also because I want to see the costumes onscreen!

Oooh yes! I’d LOVE to see those costumes and then for some company (Her Universe?) to make a clothing line based off the show so I could buy them all!

Oooh, even better! I forgot about RL clothing spin-offs based on TV shows and movies.

The Eragon film was SO BAD. I’d definitely like to see a TV series though, especially if they make the female characters a bit more 3D.

At the time, I enjoyed the film but now looking back I realize it was horrible. I was just so enamored with Saphira. But Jeremy Irons as Brom was the best thing about that film. The rest was just… not good.
And yes! A TV show adaptation could really help boost the writing and flesh out some of the other aspects of the world and characters.

Great list! 😀 We’ve some books in common and it makes me happy to see that you want “The Lies of Locke Lamora” on screen too! It could be so great.
