Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Quotes About Books

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is Favorite Book Quotes. I think I’ve done a post with quotes from books before, so this time I’m highlighting my favorite quotes about books.

“You want weapons. We’re in a library. Books are the best weapon in the world. This room’s the greatest arsenal we could have. Arm yourself! –Doctor Who, “Tooth and Claw”

“Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside a dog, it’s too dark to read.” -Groucho Marx

“The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid” – Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey

“Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them” – Lemony Snicket, Horseradish

“Books are a uniquely portable magic.” -Stephen King, On Writing

“Wear the old coat and buy the new book.”
– Austin Phelps

“Fill your house with stacks of books, in all the crannies and all the nooks.”
– Dr Seuss

“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.” – Walt Disney

“There is so much more in those words than just loving books. I love the smell of them. I love the way their bindings look pressed together on a shelf. I love the feel of the pages buzzing through my fingers. I love big books and small books. I love words and how they’re strung together, and most of all, I love the stories. I love how books are not really books at all, but doorways.” -Ashley Poston, Bookish and the Beast

“A book, too, can be a star, a living fire to lighten the darkness, leading out into the expanding universe.” – Madeleine L’Engle
