Because I enjoyed creating a reading journal in 2020, I decided to continue with a reading journal this year. I’ve kept a lot of what I do the same, like including the book cover and adding additional fun “art” things to pages of books I loved. One thing that’s new is I’m including a page for each month for books I’ve marked as DNF/books I’ve quit. I didn’t last year and I wished I had kept better track of the books I started and decided to set aside. I also included a list of reading goals for the year at the beginning, such as how many books I want to read, series/books I want to reread, certain books I want to conquer, etc.
Like last year, it’s been fun and I’ve completed a few pages that I really like so I thought I’d share them here.
I tried mimicking the covers for these two books. They didn’t come out exactly as I hoped because I’m not the best at drawing, but it was still fun to try!
I love the color scheme for this book! I also included my favorite character from the story as a doodle at the bottom 🙂
This might be the best page I’ve ever done. It was a lot of work and took a lot of drawing, erasing, drawing, erasing to get it as close as I could. Some part of the dragon still looks wonky to me, but I really love how this page came out and how it mimics the cover of book one. Ahhhh, I still can’t believe I drew that! By hand! No tracing!
I knew after finishing Under a Painted Sky that this page would have to be magnificent. I don’t know if I achieved that 100%, but I loved playing with watercolor to once again mimic the cover with that painted sky.
This spread is a close second favorite to the Fireborne / Firefall spread. Again, I drew that lovely ship by hand and I can’t believe how good it came out. (I have low standards, okay?) But basically I love this page because those covers are gorgeous and I’m still not over this duology.
