Book Spotlight: Furysong by Rosaria Munda

Welcome to book spotlight where instead of giving you another book review, I’m just going to talk about books I’ve read recently that I enjoyed. Prepare yourself for the fangirl gushing.

Furysong by Rosaria Munda is probably the 2022 release I’m most excited for. It’s the conclusion to one of my favorite YA series, one of the better dragon series I’ve ever read. To say I loved this book would be an understatement.

So much happens in this book. For a while, it’s a lot of bad things. One after another, that really made my heart ache for the characters. There is a specific event that happens that really devastated me. I’m not sure I can ever forgive Rosaria for doing it, though I understand why it had to happen.

But despite the bad, there is so much good in this book. So much hope. And victory. And character growth. I love how everything comes together for that ending. It was so satisfactory. So worth the wait. So worth all the hundreds of pages to get there. Furysong is such a good sequel, a good ending to a great series. So well written and well developed. Such good fantasy and good character arcs and amazing dragon ideas. It’s definitely one of the best books I’ve read this year.

Since this entire spotlight will just include me gushing about everything I either loved or passionately hated (not in a bad way—the parts I hate make me appreciate the book better but I just want everybody to be happy and everything to be perfect, even if that’s not realistic XD), I’m going to make it easier and just include a list of the things I want to point out. I’ll try to refrain from spoilers when I can.

Things I Love:

  • Delo’s perspective (especially since Griff acted like an idiot during a lot of this book XD)
  • How strong Annie is
  • How determined Lee is
  • Annie and Lee together (So. Worth. The. Wait.)
  • The ending
  • Aela (I won’t say more… just everything that happens with her)
  • Power’s character arc surprising me
  • Griff’s journey
  • Freyda, surprisingly. I didn’t hate her like I thought I would!
  • All the new dragons and types of dragons and expansion of dragons

Things I Hate:

  • All the character deaths. Even some of the “bad” guys don’t deserve the deaths they got.
  • Griff being a jerk to Delo
  • Ixion. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. He deserves the death he got…
  • That Annie goes through so much crap
  • How many Guardians are widowed or die
  • Some parts of the ending. I need an epilogue or another story or something. It doesn’t quite end how I wanted. I understand why it ends the way it does for story and character but still. I wanted something a little different.
