This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is Series I’d Like to Start/Catch up on/Finish. Recently, I found myself tired of waiting one, two, three years between books to finish a series so unless it’s an absolute favorite author, I won’t read a new book in a series until the entire series is published. I even created an exclusive Goodreads shelf for specific titles. Here are a few on my list.
The Last Magician series by Lisa Maxwell: I read book one and two and then realized it would be several years until three and four were published so I decided to wait to read book three. I plan to read the entire series in December once book four, The Shattered City, releases!
Realm Breaker series by Victoria Aveyard: Much to one of my friend’s dismay, I don’t want to start this until book three comes out in 2023. But I promised her I will read them once they’re all released.
Red Rising Saga by Pierce Brown: It might be a little while for this series to be completed and at that point I don’t know how committed I’ll be to reading seven books, but I’ve heard such good things about this series. I’ve been considering listening to the audiobooks when they finally are all released.
Mistborn Saga by Brandon Sanderson: This is another one that is a long way off from being finished and will also have a lot of books (at least 10?!?) once it is completed. But I feel like I should commit to reading something fantasy by Sanderson.
The Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir: I started Gideon the Ninth and couldn’t get into it, but I’ve heard such amazing things that I want to give it another try, maybe once the whole series is out and the hype for it has died down a bit.
The Infinity Courts series by Akemi Dawn Bowman: Just like with Realm Breaker, I’m just waiting for the third book to be released before I pick these up.
Dark Shores series by Danielle Jensen: I read book one and two and enjoyed them, but I never read book three and I don’t know when book four will be published. So I’m going to wait and reread the first two before reading three and four once the series is complete.
A Court of Thorns and Roses 2.0 by Sarah J. Maas: As of right now, I don’t know if I really will read the second half of this series since I don’t really care about Nesta. But if I was going to read them for any reason, I don’t want to do so until they’re all out. Which will be forever. So.
Fallen City duology by Adrienne Young: There isn’t a whole lot of information about this series yet other than it’s coming eventually, but I’ve already added it my list to wait for both books to be out before starting. I hope I can refrain from diving in, but I did it with Fable and Namesake, which was worth waiting for.
Rick Riordan Presents books: I want to read through all of these, but I don’t want to wait in between so I’m planning to hold off on reading any that are part of a series until they’re all out, which is most of them.
I understand not wanting to start a series until at least several books are out! Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

It’s definitely a book lover struggle!

I haven’t read any of these, but the Red Rising Saga is on my list, too. I’ve gotten curious about Sanderson’s Mistborn, but I’ve also read enough of his work to question whether or not I’ll like it… he’s very hit-or-miss for me. It’s hard for me to commit to a long series (of long books) from an author that has a 50/50 hit rate.

I can understand not wanting to make that commitment for an author that’s hit or miss. I’m worried I won’t like Sanderson as much as I wish I would like him. He’s so highly praised in the fantasy community but his books are long and the series are long!

Yup, that’s my problem with Sanderson. I want to like him more than I have historically done. Oh well… can’t like every author all the time!

It makes total sense to wait until a few books in a series are out. I do the same thing!

It’s so nice to just be able to pick up the next book without having to wait a year or more!
