Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite “Aww” Moments

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is Favorite “Aww” Moments In Books. I thought this list would be a challenge because I have a poor memory when it comes to specific scenes or moments in books. But I just thought through some of my favorite books and picked out moments that touched my heart. I originally thought they’d all be romantic moments, but I found a few that are not.

Almanzo driving through the snow to bring Laura home every weekend in These Happy Golden Years by Laura Ingalls Wilder: Look, anything with Almanzo Wilder makes my heart skip a little faster. He does so much for Laura without expecting much in return. I love their romance. These scenes specifically are so wonderful, but the whole book is one big “aww” moment in my opinion.

Gilbert giving up the school position for Anne in Anne of Green Gables series by L.M. Montgomery: Just like Almanzo, anything Gilbert Blythe does is swoon-worthy. He does so much for Anne, but this one really hits home because giving up the position makes it harder for him to achieve his goals.

Samwise carrying Frodo up Mount Doom in Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien: There are so many moments in Lord of the Rings that hit me hard, but Sam gathering Frodo in his arms to carry him the rest of the way takes the cake.

Percy falling with Annabeth into the Underworld in Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan: I still remember reading this part in the book and basically dying inside. Because Percy is so great and I love that he would rather go to Hell than be parted with Annabeth. Ack, my heart!

Thorne kissing Cress so she wouldn’t die unkissed in Cress by Marissa Meyer: Look, Thorne can be a lot to handle but when he cares about someone, he cares. And this part is just so magical and great despite that they’re about to be killed. (They don’t die, by the way. It was a just-in-case-we-die-here moment.)

Finn betting everything on Puck winning the Races in The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater: As much as I love Sean and Puck, Finn is my favorite character from this book and this moment is why. He never wavers in his loyalty to his sister, and his decision helped save the day.

When Aila learns the meaning of the Finnish word Will carved onto her box in The Disappearances by Emily Bain Murphy: Reading this book felt like reading a part of my own romantic journey with my husband. Something about this moment always gets to me and I feel so much.

Torwin reciting the “marriage” vows (or whatever they’re called) to Asha to show her he loves her in The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli: Look, this part… it’s too much. Too perfect. Too wonderful. Too heart-wrenching. I love it.

Annie and Finnick’s wedding in Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins: I will defend their relationship to my dying day because it it beautiful and they all deserved better. It’s been like 12 years and I’m still not okay about this.

Meg using love to save her brother from IT in A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle: While “true love” being the solution is pretty cliche these days, I still love this moment. Partly because it’s an older book and was written before it was cliche and partly because it’s love between a sister and brother. It’s just so powerful and amazing and makes me cry every time.
