Top Ten Tuesday: Bookshelf Backlist

I think every reader is guilty of having such a long TBR that a lot of books have been forgotten. I know it’s true for me. I tend to buy or find books, but then I never get around to reading them. Since I have so many books on my TBR, I’m going to narrow it down a bit. Here are ten books I own that I haven’t read yet.

(This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is Books That Have Been On My TBR the Longest and I Still Haven’t Read.)

Mere Christianity by C.S Lewis: I own a lot of C.S. Lewis books (and it’s not just because of my multiple copies of The Chronicles of Narnia), but I haven’t read that many of them. Mere Christianity is one of them, despite being considered a staple of Lewis’ works. I also need to finish reading his Space Trilogy, since I only read the first book…

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton: I’ve owned a copy of Jurassic Park for years, yet I’ve never picked it up. I’ve always been intrigued by the idea that it was a book first (and that Spielberg decided to make it into a movie before it was even published), but I’ve heard such back and forth about whether it’s worth reading or if I should just stick with the movie(s).

In the Hall of the Dragon King by Stephen R. Lawhead: I actually have a couple books by Lawhead that I own and never read. I have the entire Dragon King trilogy. Two of his books in the Bright Empires books also remain unread on my shelf.

Refuge by Lisa T. Bergren: I’ve read a lot of Lisa’s books, but I’ve never gotten around to reading her Full Circle series yet. It’s just one of those books I picked up and it was forgotten on the shelf.

Inkheart by Cornelia Funke: I started this book once, but I couldn’t get into it. So many people can’t believe I haven’t read it, so when I found a copy of Inkheart and Inkspell, I grabbed them up. But they’ve just sat on my shelf ever since.

Archenemy by Frank Beddor: I read The Looking Glass Wars and Seeing Redd back in, oh, 2013? I even obtained a copy of Archenemy not that long after, but I just never read it. This is one of the books on my short list to read soon so I can get rid of it off my shelf before I move.

Captives by Jill Williamson: Just like with Lawhead, I have a couple of Jill Williamson’s books that I’ve never read, including Captives, Rebels, and The New Recruit. I’ve read the first two books in her Kinsman Chronicles, so I’m not sure what’s keeping me from reading more of her work.

The Hard Way on Purpose by David Giffels: I met David Giffels at an author event in college, and while I loved his first book, I never found the motivation to read his second. I just recently heard he has a third book out, so I think it’s time I read this book…

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge: I’m not sure when I found a copy of Cruel Beauty, but I know keep putting on my monthly TBR but I’ve yet to read it. At this point, I’m just worried it won’t be worth reading.

The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson: I won this book in a giveaway without realizing just how long it was. (1000+ pages? And it’s book one of a series? Yikes!) I opened the package, checked the page count, and placed it on my bookshelf. I haven’t touched it since.

What books have been sitting unread on your bookshelf for a while? Let me know if any of these books are worth picking up and don’t forget to join the link-up!

  1. I need to read C.S. Lewis’ Space Trilogy, too. I have a hardbound 3-in-1 version from a book club… that I was a member of 10? 15? year ago. Haven’t touched the book except to move it from house to house. Oops.

I’m with you on the Sanderson, though. His books are loooooong.
